Resolution?

January 5, 2009

I’m going to try to spend at least 30 minutes a week on learning how to use Web2.0 sites.  I’ll begin by checking out the wordpress blog that I’m now getting as an rss feed.  Not even sure if I got the acronym right.

Too much to do in too little time!!!!  The story of my life.

Week 4: RSS feeds

July 15, 2008

I’ve spent over an hour on this week’s task, but I’m not there yet!  I made an iGoogle page and subscribed to Google reader.  I’ve also been adding to my delicious bookmarks.  I haven’t found any RSS feeds that I want yet.  It is easy to subscribe to some of the bundles of feeds that Google Reader suggests, but I know I won’t have time to look at them.  Next time, I’ll try to find NPR’s Fresh Air and see if there is an RSS feed for it.

Even with setting aside time each week, I wonder if I’ll ever have the time to really master some of these THINGS.  I guess I’ll make time for the ones that will truly be useful to me at school.  Now back to weeding books.

New question–Even though my computer date and time is correct, these posts are dated for the next day.  I can change the publishing date, but if I go on to add a comment like I am doing now, it will post at the incorrect date again.  Next time I’ll try to find a way to correct this.

Week 3

July 8, 2008

I’ve explored Flickr and set up an account to use at school.  I even added a buddy icon, something I’m absurdly pleased about.  Even tho I’ve uploaded some photos, I know it’s going to take a lot of use before Flickr becomes a “must have” tool.  I think it will be more useful to me for family photos.

I’m setting up a different account to use at home.  Are other people setting up separate accounts for home and work?  What are the pros and cons for doing it this way?

Week 2

July 3, 2008

Is it just me being in too much of a hurry, or is this blog stuff confusing?  I’m probably just being an anxious beginner.  I remember feeling this way when I started making web pages, but now it’s second nature.  It’s good to be a rank beginner again as a reminder of what kids might be feeling as I ask them to try new things. Risk-taking can be hard.

My task today, since I’ve already started a blog, is to figure out how to use tags and categories.  I hope I can find a tutorial.

Later . . . I didn’t find a tutorial per se, but figured out how to do a custom banner.  I’d like to find more bells and whistles, but have to get back to weeding books.

Week 1

June 24, 2008

I guess a new session deserves a new page.  I did the first task, or whatever they are calling it, and am impatient to start using these 23 things.  It’s so hard to be a beginner, though.  I feel like I’m bungling away, trying to navigate the 23 Things site.  Maybe the design isn’t as linear as I like things to be? I’m certainly getting the chance to click and explore, though.

March 31, 2008

I just tried to upload an avatar, but don’t see it on my page yet.  Lunch is over and so is my time to explore. Oh well.

3/31/08

March 31, 2008

I figured out how to delete my comment to my own blog.  Now I’m using lunch to explore wordpress.  I figure that even if I only learn how to do a blog, I’m ahead of where I was before.  I hope, tho, that Vermont’s 23 things stays up long enough for me to work my way through the whole thing.

Hello world!

March 27, 2008

Duh.  I found the path I was supposed to take to post on my weblog.  Now I just have to find my original “post” and take it out of the comment section.   I guess that’s progress.  I’m going to have to wait for bigger blocks of time to check out the bells and whistles.
